In times when value matters more than ever, there’s something deeply reassuring about an all-inclusive escape. No bill surprises, no budgeting stress — just uninterrupted relaxation. And few places deliver this better than The Verandah Resort & Spa in Antigua.
Nestled on the island’s northeast coast, the resort unfolds across lush, tropical grounds with two private beaches, a scattering of Caribbean-style cottages, and panoramic views over sparkling turquoise bays. We chose it for its reputation, but left singing its praises.

Sea, Sand, and Plenty to Do
For those feeling energetic, Verandah delivers. The range of complimentary non-motorised watersports is impressive: windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, pedal boats, even Hobie Cat sailing — all included. On land, you can dip into tennis, mini-golf, table tennis, or a well-equipped gym. But equally, it’s the perfect place to do very little at all.
Dining Highlights
The resort offers three dining options, two of which are included in the all-inclusive rate. But if there’s one place worth loosening the purse strings for, it’s Nicole’s. This elegant à la carte restaurant carries a modest $30 surcharge and is well worth every cent.
Our first visit began with warm, cheese-and-tomato stuffed bread, followed by tender calamari in a zingy, spiced sauce. A palate cleanser of lime sorbet prepared us for the stars of the show: a perfectly grilled steak and a rich, cheesy lobster thermidor that still makes my mouth water. We booked a second visit before dessert even arrived — a word of advice: reserve early, as tables go fast.
The second à la carte option, Buccaneer, doesn’t carry a surcharge and was perfect for more sociable dinners. We joined a group of fellow travellers around one of the large round tables — the sort of spontaneous holiday connection that makes you love resorts like this. Highlights included samosas with sharp chutney, well-seasoned saltfish fritters, and an unforgettable lamb shank so large we nicknamed it “the brontosaurus leg.” We ended the night with a scoop (or two) of cherry and coconut ice cream, generously packed with fruit and cooling after the day’s sun.

The buffet restaurant, meanwhile, proved reliably good. Mornings featured a plentiful spread of hot dishes, fresh fruit, and cereals — but the real joy was the omelette and waffle stations. You could choose from up to eight omelette fillings, or indulge your inner child with freshly made waffles dripping in maple syrup, fruit compote, cream, and chopped nuts. Pancakes and French toast were available too, if you hadn’t already burst.
Relaxation, the Caribbean Way
Although we didn’t make it to the spa ourselves, fellow guests raved about the treatments at Tranquillity Body and Soul Spa. One Canadian couple we met had booked massages and emerged visibly more relaxed, describing it as the best therapy they’d had in years.
The most we exerted ourselves was on a short, guided walk to the dramatic Devil’s Bridge — a natural rock formation steeped in island history and surrounded by crashing surf. Just 15 minutes from the resort, it offered gorgeous photo opportunities and a welcome stretch of the legs.

Cocktails, Coastlines, and Caribbean Hospitality
The three bars dotted across the resort were ideal for everything from afternoon tipples to post-dinner nightcaps. The beach bar, overlooking the peaceful cove, became our favourite shady hideaway. Drinks were plentiful — rum punch featured heavily — and the complimentary towel service was a nice touch (though do get in early, as towels sometimes ran out later in the day).
Snack options at the bar were surprisingly satisfying. After a few hours swimming, the chicken wings in blue cheese sauce really hit the spot. For lighter cravings, salads were available too.
Evenings brought gentle live music and friendly, attentive table service by the pool bar — the perfect wind-down as the stars emerged over the sea.
The Verdict
The Verandah Resort & Spa delivers exactly what a Caribbean getaway should: understated luxury, good food, endless rum, and genuine hospitality. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with family, or just looking for a beach break that doesn’t cost the earth, this resort strikes the perfect balance.
We booked independently through Sovereign Luxury Travel, who offered a small discount — but the value was unmistakable, even at full price.
