Escape to Paradise: A Sun-Soaked Stay at St James’s Club, Morgan Bay, St Lucia

As much as I adore Europe’s cobbled streets, bustling piazzas, and culinary charm, there are times when only a long-haul escape will do. Somewhere warm, lush, and unapologetically indulgent. My requirements were simple: pristine beaches, a first-class poolside experience, and all-inclusive dining that didn’t feel like a compromise. Enter St James’s Club, Morgan Bay in St Lucia.

Tucked away on the island’s west coast, this all-inclusive gem is effortlessly suited to couples, families, honeymooners, and anyone simply craving a break from reality. The moment we arrived, surrounded by swaying palms and Caribbean warmth, it was clear we’d chosen wisely.

A Culinary Tour Without Leaving the Resort

The resort boasts an impressive six restaurants, each with its own distinct identity. I admit to approaching buffet dining with a touch of scepticism, but only one venue followed this format—and it was excellent. The Palms, a breezy, colonial-style building, became a firm favourite. Its ever-changing menu kept us intrigued night after night, offering grilled seafood, ribs, Mexican, and even a dash of India on one evening.

Bambou, perched just above the shoreline, charmed us with Asian-Caribbean fusion cuisine and stunning views of the ocean. Afternoon tea is served daily at 3pm—ideal for grazing in between beachside lounging and pre-dinner cocktails.

Morgan’s Pier, dramatically set out over the water, served sensational seafood and steak, alongside more inventive dishes like spicy jerk chicken. The rotating menu meant we never tired of returning.

The showstopper, however, was Le Jardin. For a modest surcharge, we enjoyed fine dining at its best—elegant, candlelit, and romantic. The lamb cutlets were sublime, the wine list well-curated, and the live pianist sealed the atmosphere.

For something casual and family-friendly, The Plum Tree Bar & Grille next to the kids’ pool was a godsend, dishing out reliable favourites like nuggets and pasta. Meanwhile, Tree Tops, nestled hillside among the foliage, specialised in pizza and pasta—with staff more than happy to indulge our over-the-top topping requests.

Beyond the Buffet

While it was tempting to eat and lounge on repeat, the resort’s facilities encouraged balance. The gym was remarkably well-equipped, with a full suite of machines and weights, as well as classes from Caribbean dance to Pilates. And for a slower pace, the spa delivered next-level pampering, including indulgent couples massages in tranquil surroundings.

Families are well catered for too. The kids’ club (ages 2–11) kept little ones entertained with face painting, jewellery making, beach games, and even crab hunts. Parents could relax guilt-free—this place knows how to do family travel right.

Sand, Sea, and a Little Adrenaline

Water lovers, rejoice. St James’s Club includes a generous line-up of watersports at no extra cost. We took full advantage of sailing lessons, waterskiing, and banana boat rides. The beach team were patient, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping guests try something new. If I can sail a Hobie Cat by the end of the week, anyone can.

The beach itself was a dreamy stretch of golden sand, never short on loungers, with the main pool just steps away. The sea isn’t always crystal clear thanks to natural sand churn, but the warmth more than made up for it. Pool activities were thoughtfully spaced out—never intrusive, always optional. And yes, there’s a swim-up bar. You’ll find me there, cocktail in hand.

Island Adventures

Guest Services were brilliant in helping us book excursions across St Lucia, an island bursting with beauty and adventure. From ziplining through rainforest canopies to sunset cruises along the coast, there’s no shortage of memorable ways to explore.

We also had a private transfer with St Lucia Airport Shuttle—a slick, air-conditioned ride with a charming driver who kept us entertained and topped up with cold Piton beer. He even pulled over for photo stops on the mountain passes. It turned what could have been a tedious 90-minute journey into a mini tour.

The Verdict

St James’s Club, Morgan Bay is everything you want from a Caribbean escape and then some. Great food, beautiful surroundings, generous hospitality, and no shortage of things to do. Whether you’re travelling as a couple or a family, this resort hits all the right notes. We’re already planning our return.

We booked independently through Sovereign Luxury Travel, who offered a small discount — but the value was unmistakable, even at full price.
